Once you’ve tried it you’ll never want to be without lambskin skin ever again. The MATTES half-pad is always a good choice, for general riding, dressage or show jumping. Mattes has been known for its high quality lambskin products for a century and a half.
Why choose lambskin:
Breathable structure: The open wool fibres allow air to circulate freely, preventing heat build-up — unlike neoprene.
Year-round comfort: Naturally regulates temperature, keeping horses cool in summer and warm in winter.
Highly absorbent: Can hold up to eight times its own weight in moisture before feeling damp.
Pressure distribution: Upright wool fibres distribute pressure evenly, reducing rubbing and chafing as the fibres glide smoothly against the horse’s coat.
Antibacterial properties: Natural proteins in the wool help inhibit bacterial growth.
Supports muscle development: The flexible structure of the lambskin allows the horse’s muscles to move and develop freely.
Durable and washable: Designed for long-term use — fully machine washable with MELP detergent and suitable for tumble drying.
Special tanning process: Our washable tanning method maintains the lambskin’s function and longevity, unlike others that recommend brushing only.

Popular short girth with SOFT EDGE and POLY-FLEX®
Our famous MATTES short girth with removable lambskin cover and ingenious SOFT EDGE: The quality lambskin has generous cutouts on both long edges to avoid edge pressure and chafing, just like all our other girths. The basic girth is padded with POLY-FLEX® inserts, finished with elasticated stainless steel buckles and a D-ring for a martingale.
Anatomical: For horses with a well-defined girth groove and good conformation. The elbow section is cut back to allow extra room for the movement of the horses elbow.

Athletico: This girth has a specific fit adapted to horses with an athletic, wedge shaped body. The saddle has a tendency to slip backwards, also pulling the girth backwards, because all the lines of the horses body: back, ribcage and sternum to belly taper towards the rear. So, instead of opening to the rear this girth simply opens to the front, to a degree! Naturally, the internal construction is essential for the function of the girth! We developed this design, because this specific problem was pointed out to us by several riders and horse owners on quite a few jumpers and specifically in eventing horses!

High quality lambskin saddle girth in the crescent shape. For “round” horses with a short back and broad ribcage or narrow chest. The special shape of this girth works with the shape of the ribs so that the girth cannot slip forwards.
